Soil Erodibility Factor, K
The K factor for the site soils were provided by the Steamboat Springs, Colorado office of the
NRCS (Vance Fulton, MRCS soil scientist, personnel communication, 1995). The average K
value for soil map units 66 and 68 is 0.28, for soil map units 2VC and 2VD the K value is 0.24,
and for soil unit 103, the average K value is 0.17. The area weighted average K value was
calculated as 0.25.
Representative Slope Length, ~
The slope length is representative of the typical slope length for a watershed. It is the distance from
the point of origin of overland flow to the point where the slope decreases such that significant
deposition occurs or the flow enters a defined channel. The slope length was measured directly from
the 1" = 500' computer generated map.
Average Slope
The average slope is entered as a percent and is the representative slope for overland flow for each
watershed. The average slope was measured directly from the 1 " = 500' computer generated map.
Control Practice Factor, CP
The control practice factor is defined as the ratio of sediment loss from an area with a given cover
and conservation practice to that of a field in continuous fallow. The following value (Haan, et al.,
1994) was utilized:
Area Condition ~
Permanent pasture 0% canopy, 80 % vegetative cover 0.013
c:~87Thg8~primary4nelhad.how 7/16/96
