24
.The historic sites, 5RT15, 5RT21, 5R726, and 5RT28, all structural
remains in various states of repair, are abandoned homestead sites dating
from the late nineteenth to early twentieth century with abandonment prob-
ably occurring in the latter part of the 1920's to 1930's.
Tracts 1 and 4, located roughly two miles to the west of Tracts 3
and 6, are generally similar in vegetation and topography. The major
exceptions are that Foidel Creek runs through the central portion of the
tract area, Eckman Park, and that the northern part of Tract 4 lies on
the top of a second uplifted sandstone block.. Otherwise there is no dif-
ference between the two areas.
Archaeologically, the western area presents a little more variety
in site types. The survey data for Tracts 1 and 4 are summarized in
• Tables 3 and 4, respectively. Whereas all prehistoric sites in Tracts 3
and 6 are open camps, three of the four prehistoric sites in Tracts 1 and
4 are open lithic sites and the fourth is an open camp. Sites 5RT32, 5RT33,
and 5RT34 make up a tight cluster of sites located at a break in the sand-
stone cliff and on the confluence of Foidel Creek and an unnamed drainage.
Two of these, 5RT33 and 5RT34, are lithic sites, and the third is an open
camp. Tl~e fourth site, 5RT24, is an open lithic site located approximately
three miles southwest of the other three. It, too, is adjacent to a per-
manent watercourse. The four sites are all minimal, in the sense that
none covers much area, or provides a large sample of artifactual mate-
rial.
Sites 5RT32, 5RT33, and 5RT34 have all been subject to some disturbance
from powerline and access road construction. They are also in a location
• which would allow deposition to cover any cultural materials.
