Gunnison Mine
surface facilities area. As we discussed, it appears at this time that the
pile will. not be- built at this location. Rather, since land was recently
purchased from the ~U.S. Stee);'Corporation immediately south of the North
Fork.Df the ;C~unn:i5tin River end 'east of our administration trailers, WECC
intends to submitj;;~n application to construct a permanent disposal site at
this location.
However, unti:l~ suth~`time -as construction of that pile is approved, WECC has
agreed to submito`a performance bond in the amount necessary to construct and
reclaim the- a~te on the upper bench and the access road to the site. In
addition, bond-wiill be posted which will cover the cost of hauling the gob
temporarily..stuckpiled at the "U. S. Steel laydowh area" site to the upper
bench site %'antl'~Cbnstructing the pile. The quantity of gob to be hauled to
the upper site`3+as determined based upon that which is presently stockpiled
plus that whicK?'~•is anticipated to be generated between now and May 1, 1986
(one month .into the 1986 construction season). This bond is being posted in
the event -:that the lower site is not developed and WECC Cannot meet its
reclamation obligation at the Mt. Gunnison Mine.
ACCESS ROAD -
In order to determine construction costs of the proposed access road, Baker
Engineering performed afield reconnaissance of the proposed roadway. Their
field otrserv-ations indicated that in general the surficial soils consisted
of topsoi } aid sandy c`;l~y with smtil l to r;large pieces of sandstoyf~+fragments
as shown in'1Drawing '#MG-RC-010. These materials are t:onsistent'~along, the
entire rnuter4if• the proposed roadway. The cut slope along the existing
trail indicafe'd that the' thickrie;s• of the sandy clay with rock .fragments
extended to~'e}reater`=than 3 feef;.in the vicinity of stations 13+00 ,to 15;+00.
No.~pnsiste'rli?Srocli:"out~roQ;`w,as.noted along the roadway.
