Places and People visited: We met with Merritt Denison Superintendent, Fire Mountain Canal <br />and Reservoir Company, Paul Schmucker, Boazd Member, Fire Mountain Canal and Reservoir <br />Company, William (Bill) Bear, Jr., Mine Manager, Bowie Resources, Ltd (Bowie Resources), <br />Jim Stover, PE, of J.E. Stover & Associates, and Joe Dudash, Environmental Protection <br />Specialist, Division of Minerals and Geology (DMG), Colorado Department of Natural <br />Resources, along "old" highway 133 neaz the Fire Mountain Canal at about 9:35 am. We looked <br />mainly at Pond F and the Deer Trail Ditch, but also looked at Pond B. <br />3. Purpose of the trip: This trip was set up to include Joe Dudash, along with Fire Mountain <br />Canal and Reservoir Company and Bowie Mine #2 representatives to review concerns about mine <br />settling pond discharges that go into or could go into the FMC. These concerns were previously <br />expressed to the Bowie Mine #2 representatives in two previous site visits earlier this year. <br />The first site visit was conducted on April 21, 2004 to look at problems of discharges from <br />another pond (Pond B) into the FMC and is documented in a travel report dated Apri127, 2004. <br />A second site visit was conducted on October 5, 2004 with the main concern being Pond F which <br />was constructed in the summer. This site visit was documented in a trip report dated October 15, <br />2004. <br />Fire Mountain Canal and Reservoir Company operates and maintains the FMC and the North <br />Fork Water Conservancy District has a repayment contract with the Bureau of Reclamation that <br />covers the work on the FMC as well as Paonia Dam. <br />Synopsis of trip: Dan Crabtree and Bob Major traveled to the Bowie, Colorado area amving at <br />azound 9:35 am. We met with Merritt Denison and Paul Schmucker with Fire Mountain Canal <br />and Reservoir Company, William (Bill) Bear Jr. and Jim Stover representing Bowie Resources <br />which owns and constructed the ponds, and with Joe Dudash who inspects the overall operations <br />
