Places and People visited: We met with Merritt Denison Superintendent, Fire <br />Mountain Canal and Reservoir Company, Trey Denison, Ditch Rider, Fire <br />Mountain Canal and Reservoir Company, and William (Bill) Bear, Jr., Mine <br />Manager, Bowie Resources, Ltd (Bowie Resources), along "old" highway 133 <br />near a settling pond located uphill of the Fire Mountain Canal. <br />Purpose of the trip: John Ozga and Bob Major were asked by Kathleen Ozga, <br />to look into reported discharges from a mine settling pond into the Fire Mountain <br />Canal (FMC). <br />Kathleen reported that Merritt Denison had called her about discharges into the <br />FMC from a settling pond owned by Bowie Resources. These discharges have <br />happened over the last 2-3 weeks and continued even though Merritt had talked <br />to representatives for Bowie Resources about the issue. It was also reported <br />that an employee for Delta County has taken a sample of the discharge, as well <br />as some photos, and will have the sample tested. <br />Fire Mountain Canal and Reservoir Company operates and maintains the FMC <br />and the North Fork Water Conservancy District has a repayment contract with <br />the Bureau of Reclamation that covers the work on the FMC as well as Paonia <br />Dam. <br />
