Places and People visited: We met with Merritt Denison Superintendent, Fire <br />Mountain Canal and Reservoir Company, Paul Schmucker, Board Member, Fire <br />Mountain Canal and Reservoir Company, William (Bill) Bear, Jr., Mine Manager, <br />Bowie Resources, Ltd (Bowie Resources), and Jim Stover, PE, of J.E. Stover & <br />Associates, along "old" highway 133 near the Fire Mountain Canal at about 10 <br />am. We looked mainly at Pond F, but also looked at Ponds B, C and D. <br />3. Purpose of the trip: Bob Major was asked by Merritt Denison on September <br />30, 2004 during a phone call to look into a new mine settlement pond (built this <br />summer) that discharges into the Fire Mountain Canal (FMC). Alan Schroeder <br />was included in this trip due to his familiarity with storm water issues. <br />After this call, Glenn Stone and Bob Major had briefly met with Mr. Jim Stover, <br />PE on September 30, 2004, who had contacted this office. Mr. Stover is the <br />engineer who consults for Bowie Resources designed Pond F and briefly <br />discussed potential discharges from mine settling ponds into the FMC. Mr. <br />Stover's office is located at 2768 Compass Dr, Suite 101 which is next to <br />Reclamation's Western Colorado Area Office, in Grand Junction CO. <br />A copy of the recently renewed discharge permit, State of Colorado discharge <br />permit #CO-0044776 (signed July 27, 2004, effective September 1, 2004) was <br />obtained prior to going on this trip. <br />
