• Construction of 10-foot or 20-foot high berms over sections of the road that
could be relocated
• Construction of 10-foot high berms starting approximately 30 feet from the
road in the direction of the cliff, for sections of the road that could not be
temporarily relocated.
• Excavation of a 10 foot deep trench in combination with a 10-foot high
berm, for sections of the road that could not be temporarily relocated.
CRSP runs were performed for each of the sections located within the study area and for
each of the applicable alternative catch area/berm configurations. Results are presented
in Appendices A and C and discussed below.
4.2 Analysis Results
Figure 4-2 shows the format used for summarizing the results for both existing conditions
and for each of the applicable catch area/berm configurations. The upper sketch
• illustrates the gradient of the cliff and foreslope used in each simulation and the location
of the "blown-up" section incorporating the road (shown in color). Results of each
simulation are shown in the four "blown-up" sections:
1. The upper, left hand sketch shows results for the section without mitigation.
2. The lower left hand sketch shows the results for mitigation using a trench
and berm.
3. The upper right hand sketch shows results for mitigation using a 10-foot
high berm
4. The lower right hand sketch shows results for mitigation using a 20-foot
high berm
The percent of boulders passing through each zone are presented above each of the
"blown-up" sections. In this example, the simulation resulted in:

21
