• CRSP model simulations were run for calibration sections in Zones 11 and 14 using the
selected model parameters. The shaded areas in Drawing 1 show where the majority of
boulders were predicted to stop for each of the two 5840 cubic feet and one 65 cubic feet
boulder sections; red dots show the actual location of boulders observed in the field.
3.3 Hazard Assessment
A number of slope morphological zones were established from the morphological
mapping. Each zone represents an area of reasonably consistent slope morphology,
providing a convenient basis for subdividing the slope for analysis. CRSP models were
developed based on selected sections in each zone, and run using average slope
parameters, the design block size described above, and an effective roughness of 33%.
• Figures showing analyzed sections and the results of individual model runs are presented
in Appendix A.
From the CRSP output, cumulative probability plots of stopping distances were produced
(Appendix A) and used to prepare the hazard contours shown on Drawing. 2. These
represent the lines beyond which 50%, 5% and 0% of fallen blocks would be expected to
travel based on the conservative assumptions outlined above. The 0% contour thus
represents a conservative limit of the hazard zone, and delineates areas in which rockfall
hazard mitigation measures need to be applied.

19
