This will
help retain moisture to promote germination and stand establishment,
and Drill minimize erosion.
SEED TYPES AND SEEDING PATES
Russian Wild Rye
Nordon Crested Wheatgrass
Sand Dropseed
Yellow Sweet Clover
*PLS refers to Pure Live Seed
SEEDING
S pounds "PLS/acre
4 pounds PLS/acre
0.2 pounds PLS/acre
2 pounds PLS/acre
Total 13.2 pounds PLS/acre
Due to its size, the sand dropseed may have to be applied by the
broadcast method. The remainder of the seed mixture should be drilled into
the soil to a depth of about one-half inch, Tf drilling is not possible,
the entire mixture may be applied by broadcasting, but thesseeding rates
should be doubled. The seed should be raked or dragged to cover the seed
one-half inch deep if broad casting is used.
Since there will be no water available for irrigation purposes,
it is recommended that the seeding be performed in the late summer
(July and August), to take advantage of the more likely probability
of precipitation.
Also, since relatively small areas will be reclaimed each year, it
might be feasible to handwater the seeding for the first two or three
weeks. This would greatly enhance the chances 6f re-establishment.
rRANSPLANTs
In addition to the above seeding recommendations, since there is
any:abundance of rabbit brush in the near vicinity, it is suggested that
some of the rabbit brush be dug up and replanted on the pmt slopes and
bottom. A likely site to obtain the rabbit brush would be from area
that is to be mined the following year. The most favorable time for
replanting is in the spring, to allow a full growing season For re-
establishment, Once again, hand watering would greatly facilitate the
re-establishment. The rabbit brush should be planted in low spots to
