Gunnison <br />Hine p 1, Somerset, Colorado. The project wan carried out for Atlantic <br />Richfield Company at the request of Laurence G. Rliae, Eaviroameatal <br />Scientist, Denver, Colorado. <br />The archaeological team included Ms. Robert E. Hurlbutt, Field <br />Supervisor far the project, sad Mr. Douglas A. McFadden. Both were <br />employed by Fort Lewis College, and both have Master of Arta degrees <br />is dathropology sad at least 24 months experience is field archaeology. <br />Dr. Susan M. Applegarth, Fort Lewis College, had general responsibility <br />for the project sad directly supervised laboratory operations sad <br />report preparation. <br />The field work was completed is three phases due to unstable <br />weather conditions is the study area: 1) October 27-30, 1975; <br />Z) November 14-16, 1975; sad 3) Tune 9-L2, 1476. Analysis was <br />carried out immediately following each field period. <br />Nature of Development <br />the proposed development is to be conducted in two phases: <br />Phase I--the extractive of a bulk coal sample from the Sylvester <br />Gulch Adit (nov completed); and Phase II--the construerioa of the <br />Ht. Gunaisan Hine ~ 1 to include mine acceea routes, mica support <br />facilities, a coal preparation plane, and one or more dump si[ea <br />(eoastruetion to begin Sa about two gears).
