Unsuitability Analysis and Report '
This unsuitability analysis and report was prepared for a 160-acre tract
of federal coal lands described as:
T. 35 N., R. 11 N., NMPM
Section 32: SW;
in la Plata County, Colorado

This tract was identified in an emergency coal lease application
(C-29125) submitted by National King Coal, Inc., on October 16, 1979,
and was amended on July 9, 1980. The tract lies adjacent to and south
of the existing federal coal lease P-058300. The leaseholder of that
federal coal lease is National King Coal, lnc.
The tract is located approximately four miles southwest of the town of
Hesperus, Colorado, in La Plata County. The 160 acres consists of
federally-owned coal estate overlain by private lands.
In compiling this analysis and report the unsuitability criteria pub-
lished in 43 CFR 3461 were used.
The emergency lease application containing the general mine and pro-
duction history as well as the Colorado Plined Land Reclamation Board
Permit Application for Coal Lease P-058300, were used to identify areas
where there would be surface effects of underground mining. There is no
proposed surf;,ce disturbance other than possible subsidence to the total
application area.
The unsuitability criteria were applied individually to the total
proposed lease tract and maps were developed showing the applicability
of the criteria. After all the criteria v,ere applied, the exceptions of
each criterion found to be applicable tivere examined to determine if the
exceptions were applicable. After the process had been completed, a
summary stating the conclusions of the report was written.

Analysis: None of the private surface lands in this 160-acre tract
lie in any of the land systems or categories listed in the criterion.
