EXHIBIT H
HINED LAND WILDLIFE STATEMENT/EVALUATION (Revised)
' for limited impact and select regular mine applications
The following information pertaining to wildlife is provided for use by Mined Iand
' Reclamation Board in their consideration of a mining perm![ for:
Church Ranch, Rocky Flats Pit, Section 9, T25, R70W, 6th P.M.
Name/Type and Location of Hine (Legal)
' F111dlife Species list:
' flule and whitetail deer, cottontail, jackrabbit, skunks, raccoon,
small rodents, sogbirds, raven, magpie, coyote, raptors (golden
eagle, owls, hawks), snakes, lizards, mourning dove.
Endangered/critical species/impacted:
' None known.
Critical habitats/vegetative communities impacted:
The present habitat is a typical high plains pasture/grassland complex
' that favors small mammals, small birds, and raptors. The ditches and
low-lying drainages are used extensively as travel lanes, resting and
feeding areas by deer. Even though the land appears rather barren, it
is sup~isingly productive for wildlife described above.
' Assessment of impact:
dining activity will totally destroy the wildlife habitat until such
' time as reclamation is complete. Deer/vehicle collisions will result
i-n an unneces-s~r3- reduction of the herd unless truck drivers are
alert to the possibility.
' Hine Reclamation zecomroendations (include key species/habitats for which restoration
is designed).
' The resulting depressed area after mining is completed offers an
excellent opportunity to provide vegetation favoring small mammals
and songbirds, as well as deer. Native grasses and extensive use of
' appropriate shrubs that provide both food and cover are recommended
to be planted in a suitable layer of topsoil. This vegetative complex
will serve to increase prey populations, which in turn will benefit
predators, especially the raptors. A rather high shrub density must be
utilized, however. Precautions along the west and north perimeters
should be taken to combat the strong winds and drifting snow. This can
' best be accomplished by the creation of a vegetative "living snowfense"
consisting of trees and shrubs. Raptors can be benefitted by the
placement of a few hunting perches made from flat-topped wood posts,
' with crossarms that are circular in cross-section.
' Prepared By: ~~-11 {-~e~.~~
Submitted By' ~L~i`',7i1~1~l~C'L ~,~ ~~ ~.ce~n_e~t.
' This statement is void if not processed vithln 1 vear_
19
II-1 ~- B6
Date:
Daie; (~~ ~~~~/~
