nitrate concentrations are not particularly high with two notable <br />• exceptions from 185 to 190 feet (with a concentration of 36 ppm) <br />and 190 to 215 feet (with a concentration of 22 ppm). No problems <br />should result during mining with respect to nitrate concentrations <br />In summary, the chemical analyses of the overburden samples <br />demonstrate that there are really no potential toxicity problems <br />assoicated with any of the parameters tested except sodium. The <br />zone immediately below the topsoil is extremely sodic in this area. <br />The three carbonaceous zones having sodium absorption ratios higher <br />than that of the near topsoil zone should be burried at depth in <br />the spoil area to insure that sodium concentrations higher than at <br />present will not exist in this zone after reclamation. Special <br />handling of the remaining overburden in general will not be necessary <br />as the random mixing of spoil in the backfill areas will lower the <br />overall sodium concentrations throughout the spoil area. Wyoming <br />Fuel Company does not intend to use any overburden as a substitute <br />for topsoil. <br />• GEOLOGY OF PIT 2 - FEDERAL COAL LEASE NO. C-30168 <br />Stratigraphy, Structure and Coal Geology <br />During July through September, 1980, Wyoming Fuel Company <br />conducted an extensive drilling exploration program to determine <br />the quantity and quality of potential recoverable reserves for <br />the future extension of the Canadian Strip Mine. This exploration <br />was accomplished under Federal Exploration License C-29315 within <br />which the lease area lies. Efforts were primarily concentrated <br />within the lease area, where a total of fifty-eight exploration <br />holes and eight core holes were drilled. A summary of the drill <br />hole information within the lease area and vicinity is listed in <br />Table 6. Four geologic cross sections (Exhibit C-4} were constructed <br />from this data and are located on the Geologic Map of the Permit <br />Area (Exhibit C-2).
