H. TERRESTRIAL VERTEBRATES
1. INTRODUCTION
Prior to any perturbation or manipulation of the environment it is
essential to conduct a predisturbance study of the factors likely to be
disrupted or impacted by the proposed action. This facilitates
understanding the dynamics of the environment such that perturbation
consequences can be predicted and avoided or considered in any situation
requiring ecological and/or economic mitigation or "trade offs."
a. Purpose
• The primary purpose of this study was to conduct a survey of the
terrestrial vertebrates in identified plant communities in the
environs of the potential areas of impact resulting from the
construction and development of a proposed coal mine and its
associated facilities, including the mine portal, coal washing and
storage facilities, xaste disposal site, a raw water pipeline
corridor and coal transportation corridor. The mine, washing,
storage and disposal sites lie within the boundaries of R101W T2N
SECS. 1 W 1/2, 12 NW 1/4, 2, 3, 4, 10 NE 1/4 AND 11 N 1/2; R101W
T3N SECS. 19, 20, 21, 22, 23, 26, 27, 28, 29, 30, 31, 32, 33, 34 S
1/2, 35 S 1/2, 36 SW 1/4 in Rio Blanco County, Colorado. The rax
water corridor is located within the boundaries of R101W T2N SECS. 3
SW 1/¢, 10 N 1/2, 11 W 1/2 in Rio Blanco County, Colorado. Map 8 in
•
II.H-1
