Pf-95-010
Dear Tom,
I forwarded the Application Notice for this gravel pit to UWM Uave
Harper for his review. We offer the following comments for your
use in permitting this activity.
The site is located in designated big game winter concentration
area. This designation implies that this is the most important
habitat for big game survival. Therefore any activities regulated
in this area should provide for the least harassment of big game.
Winter operations should not be allowed, or ai most be restricted
to the hours of 1Gam - 2pm during the months of Gctober to the
following April. Workers should not be allowed to have firearms or
dogs with them while working this site during the winter period.
The habitat is primarily sagebrush and pinyon/jltniper. Reclamation
should account for the potential use of this area by big game.
Reseeding with native grasses should include a variety of cool
season and warm season sod and bunch grasses. Gravel extraction
should be conducted so as not to allow runoff from the site into
Lisappointment Creek. Further, contamination of groundwater or
surface water from petroleum products should not occur. The
Division recommends slopes of a matiim>tm 3:1 be used at final
reclamtion in order to obtain optimum bank stability and
revegetation.
If you have any question, please feel free to call me.
Si~nc~erely,
/..'tit "` /j1. ~rv~-
Ruth I.1.
