Climatological data recorded at <br />Canon City is considered representative of the Pazkdale site. Canon City is located about <br />six miles southeast of Parkdale. Canon City's elevation is about 5,300 feet AMSL and <br />Parkdale's elevation is 5,800 AMSL. Summers are warm and winters cold. Summer <br />precipitation falls as showers, and some thundershowers occur. In winter the snow cover <br />in unshaded azeas and on south-facing slopes often melts within a few days of snowfall. <br />The table below lists data on temperature and precipitation as recorded at Canon City for <br />the period between 1951 and 1980. In winter, the average temperature is 38 degrees at <br />Canon City and the average daily minimum temperature is 24 degrees. In summer, the <br />average temperature is 73 degrees and the average daily maximum temperature is about <br />84 degrees. <br />The total annual precipitation is about 13 inches at Canon City for the period of record. <br />Of this, 65 percent usually falls in April through September. The usual growing season <br />extending between April 28th and October 12th falls within this period. The heaviest 1- <br />day rainfall during the period of record was 2.74 inches on May 18, 1955. <br />Thunderstorms occur on about 60 days each year. Average seasonal snowfall is about 37 <br />inches and the greatest snow depth at any one time during the period of record was 25 <br />inches. On the average, at least 1 inch of snow is on the ground for 2 days before <br />melting. The number of such days varies greatly from year to year. <br />Average relative humidity in midafternoon is about 40 percent. Humidity is higher at <br />night, and the average at dawn is about 60 percent. The sun shines about 80 percent of <br />the time possible in summer and 75 percent in winter. The prevailing wing is from the <br />north-northeast. Average windspeed is highest, about 12 miles per hour, in spring. <br />
