<br />i • • <br />"6.0 OPERATION, MAINTENANCE, AND SAFETY PROCEDURES <br />6.1 Operating Procedures <br />Operating procedures primarily relate to on-site movement and <br />use of chemicals. Employees involved in this work will receive <br />instruction on safe handling. This includes: <br />a. Driving vehicles (trucks and forklifts) carefully to <br />avoid collisions or ruptures to storage containers. <br />b. Making sure there is adequate clearance when positioning <br />a truck or equipment adjacent to storage or distribution <br />points. <br />c. Checking to make sure all pallets or containers are <br />securely placed to prevent tipping and spilling. <br />~ 6.2 Maintenance <br />Inspection of storage facilities will be completed on a regular <br />basis. The mill processing storage facilities are checked each shift <br />by mill personnel. Materials in the storage yard aYe routinely <br />checked by personnel. Materials in the truck shop area are checked <br />daily. The inspection includes checking for visible signs of leakage, <br />checking containers for any sign of weakness, tearing ar rupturing, <br />and checking for cracks or breaks in containment berms. Any observed <br />problem will be immediately reported and repaired. <br />The San Luis Project will have an active security/safety <br />system. Access to the mill area and tailings facilities will be <br />through gates. Yard lighting will be adequate to det@r vandalism <br />and to allow detection of storage containers that may be leaking. <br />-7- <br />
