~ BERTHOUD PINR STONE QUARRIES • III IIIIII'lllllllll
sss
1. The operator commits to salvaging all available top soil d fines for
use in later reclaimation. Aowever, because the depth of top s it and fines
is minimal, 2 - 4 inches, not much is available. Some top soi and fines
have been previously salvaged and were shown on one of the maps Any add-
itional disturbance of the surface in this quarry would have th top soil and
fines stored in the same area. Because the tdp soil in this a a is very
heavy and contains many small stones from from surface outcropp ngs, erosion
is minimal. This pile has been there for over fifteen years an no erosion
has occurred in fact it has reseeded itself with some brush, gr ss and some
small trees. We really do not expect to enlarge this area much because of
the very small amount that we take from these quarries each yea , onlq
100 - 200 tons per year.
2. Adjacent land owners were identified: Ann Mc Color and Vir it Aber.
3. Lengths and xidths were shown on the new maps.
4. The access roads from the north to the south quarries are d rote per-
manent, pre-existing roads of 20 or more years and so should no be included
in the permit boundry.
$. When recalculated on the nex maps the acerage xas under th 10 acres.
6. Quarries are not normally quarried more than 12 feet in de th.
7. Normally no high vertical walls are left on completion of he mining or
during the mining because most mining is done with the aid of a fork lift
type loader. In order to do this the mining must be done in to benches to
facilitate the moving the stone from the quarry to the stone cu ter or to be
loaded on pallets and to then be loaded onto the truck.
8. The general slope of the reclaimed areas will be similar to the slope of
the surrounding mountain because the slope of the quarry stone ase determined
the slope of the mountain. Where it it differs the slope will a lodged every
few feet to keep the slope at a reasonable grade.
