Joe Keating
Gentlemen:
~ar~ 4~ ~~a;a

As required by your current regulations, we herewith submit
our application to engage in open pit mining of sand and
gravel. The location of this proposed gravel pit is as
noted on the attached map which was prepared by Air Photo
Surveys, Inc. of Grand Junction, Colorado.
The owners of the surface of the area of land to be affected
are Edward T. and Alta T. Leighton, c/o John Schmahl. 'de
have an Agreement from the owner xhich grants us permission
to extract and process the sand and gravel located within the
designated pit area.
During the past 10 to 15 years numerous gravel pits have
been indeterminately ex ravated throughout the proposed pit
area. Overburden, trash, brush etc. has been indiscriminately
piled within the perimeter of the proposed pit. These
previous operations have killed the vegetation and xeeds now
cover most of the affected surface area.
During our investigation of the area we have found that the
gravel has not been totally removed from the old pits. Only
that material which lies at or above the water table has been
e:tcavated. We have determined that approximately 8 to 10
feet of gravel is available.
We propose to excavate a sump area around the pit and dewater
the sand and gravel deposit. At that time the material can
be removed and processed for use.
