~'i[OiOQIC ASJ[fSm[N
• seam were encountered at 139 feet and extended to 146 feet below grade. Shale and siltstone was
encountered to the top of the Rollins Formation at 165 feet below grade. The Rollins Sandstone
was consistent with the findings of the UTL well. The Rollins Sandstone consisted of poorly
sorted, fine grained, light gray sandstone with interbedded shale. The formation was soft at times
with varying degrees of cementation. The Rollins extended to a depth of.260 feet below grade.
The RSS well, located in the Roadside South Mine, consisted of carbonaceous shale with
interbedded clay from the floor of the mine to a depth of 8.5 feet below grade. Fine grained,
poorly sorted sandstone followed by a two-foot interval of fine to medium grain sandstone with
interbedded carbonaceous shale was encountered to 27 feet below grade. The Rollins Sandstone
was transitionally encountered around 25 feet below grade. The Rollins Sandstone consists of
fine-medium, light gray, poorly sorted sandstone with varying degrees of hardness. Interbedded
shale was encountered at several intervals. The sandstone extended to a depth of 109.5 feet below
grade and the bottom of the boring.
The RSN well, located in the Roadside North Mine, consisted of 7 feet of coal followed by 5 feet
of carbonaceous shale. The Rollins Sandstone was encountered at a depth of 12 feet below grade.
The Rollins Sandstone was consistent with the findings from the RSS well and consisted of fine
to medium, light gray, poorly sorted sandstone with varying degrees of hardness. The Rollins
Sandstone was encountered to a depth of 90 feet and the bottom of the boring. Due to drilling
• difficulties and based upon information obtained from the three previous borings, this depth was
deemed sufficient to characterize the formation. Lithologic logs are included in Appendix II.
Monitoring well completion logs for the UTL well and the N-Decline well are included in
Appendix II.
C~
J
r2.597\1\Scpiember 9, 1997
4 ~~®
