In the extremely unlikely event that groundwater was ever encountered during the 13 feet
temporary operation in Phase 1, and in subsequent phases, Haldorson commits to
covering any wet azeas with 5 feet minimum of overburden/topsoil and forgo any future
mining in that area.
Summary of Additional Reasons Based on January 2004 Data and Investigations
10) Water well drilling confumed the appreciable depths of gravel within Phases 1
through 4 of the project.
11) Sieve Analyses and Percolation Testing confirmed that the gravel offers almost no
resistance to water movement.
12) Additional geology investigation (supported by well drilling data) which shows a
shale ridge along the southwest corner of the permit area trending northwest to the
southeast, preventing almost all groundwater from entering the site.
13) Letters from various people supporting the fact that no water was encountered at
shallow depths in the surrounding pits, even during irrigation season.
All of the information presented in the December 24, 2003 Report has been strengthened
and confirmed by the additional work done in January 2004. The fact that so little
irrigable azea can infiltrate water to the Haldorson site, combined with the fact that the
gravel is proven to be extremely permeable and the gravel depths in Phase 1 are
confirmed to be greater than 60 feet, this is overwhelming evidence that it is extremely
unlikely that groundwater will be encountered in Phase 1 to a depth of at least 40 feet.
As stated earlier, this request is for 13 feet. I believe, as a registered professional engineer
in the State of Colorado, with 23 years of mining, reclamation and hydrology experience
in this State, that the science is very cleaz and that to deny mining to the depth of 13 feet
in Phase 1 would be an extreme injustice to the applicant, Mazk Haldorson.
s
QPpfl RF~lal t
~S~O~Y C. ~F~y'€9.~ ~~~~
'V7 .» ~~
~~
?C' 20335 ~~ '/aS/©~
4 ~~ ry
•~
i ~'~
o~~°~alYAl~~~\
