Will subsoil be salvaged?
The third paragraph of the Mining Plan states: "The cla deposit
ranges from 4' to 12' in thickness and is overlain by sa dstone
caprock ranging in depth from 3' to 6'. The caprock ove burden will
either be ripped or shot and then dozed to the pit Perim ters.
Topsoil is virtually non-existent on the caprock except or occasional
pockets which will be segregated and stockpiled for repl cement in
reclamation." The subsoil as such is sandstone caprock ather than
any type of soil.
B. Segregate b stockpile separately from topsoil. Ass ted in the
application, it will be dozed to the perimeter and stock iled separately
from any salvageable topsoil. The Reclamation Plan, Exh it E, states
"The caprock after it is ripped and/or shot, plus dozer vement over
it, will be broken down into comparatively small sizes a ancing
reclamation."
The attached photos show the existing cut with the clay dy and
caprock cover. The closeup of the caprock shows the abse a of any
normm3_subsoil as well as the sparse to non-existent tops il. The
surface area picture is typical of the site with caprock utcropping
on the surface which makes preservation of the sparse top oil quite
difficult.
