Walther
E.veculive Director
Michael 8. Long
Division Dueaor
This letter is in response to your April 10, 2001 correspondence to DMG regarding a request for
clarification of the relationship between the permit application review process and item no. 2 of the
"Responsibilities as a Permittee" section of the application form.
Item no. 2 pertains to applications that have completed the adequacy review process, been approved, and a
corresponding permit issued by DMG. The Line Camp application is still being reviewed for adequacy by
DMG staff. A recommendation by DMG staffto the Mined Land Reclamation Board on whether to
approve or deny the application will be made by the amended decision date of May 5, 2001 unless the
applicant further revises or amends the application, or requests an extension to the decision date.
A fundamental feature of the permit application review process allows an applicant to make corrections,
clarifications, revisions, or amendments to an application during the review period in order to produce a
final application "product" that adequately meets the requirements of the Statute, Rules and Regulations. A
DMG adequacy review of an application may involve several iterations of staff review and applicant
response in order to resolve inadequacies identified by DMG staff. For the Line Camp Pit application,
DMG staff has completed a preliminary or "first cut" review and is now in the process of evaluating the
applicant's responses. DMG is also in the process of reviewing an amendment to the application. Review
of the amendment may result in additional adequacy review comments by DMG.
If you have any questions, please feel free to call me at 970-247-5523.
Sincerely,
Tom Gillis
Senior Environmental Protection Specialist.
/tdg
m001 clo l .doe
