Section 779.27 (a) Continued. <br />• proposed mine plan area to determine whether lands within the area may <br />be prime farmland. <br />(b) Land shall not be considered prime farmland where the applicant can <br />demonstrate one of the follos~ing-- <br />(1) The land has not been historically used as cropland; <br />(2) The slope of the land is 10 percont or greater; <br />(3) The land is not irrigated or naturally subirrigated, has no developed <br />water supply that is dependable or of adcauate quality and the average <br />annual precipitation is 14 inches or less; <br />(4) Othex• factors exist, such as a very rocky surface, or the land is <br />frequently flooded during the growing season, more often than once in 2 <br />• years, and the flooding has reduced crop yields; or <br />(5) Or. the basis of a soil survey of lands within the mine plan area, <br />there are no soil map units that have been designated prime farmland by <br />the U. S. Soil Conservation Service. <br />In order to determine the presence of potential prime farmlands <br />within the proposed mine plan area, a reconnaissance inspection wac <br />conducted to determine if any prime farmland as defined in 30 CFR <br />701.5 was present. <br />There are five cropland areas within the mine plan area as de- <br />lineated on the Tu+entyuiile Land Use (Map 31). These fields are <br />labeled C1, C2, C3, C4, CS and are located on Energy Mines No. 1 <br />and 2 as shown on the above mentioned map. Only fields C3, C4 and <br />CS have been disturbed as a result of mining. No cropland is <br />encountered on the proposed Eckman Park area. <br />r 1 <br />LJ <br />779-323 <br />
