Revised: 07/26/90
WALDEN COAL COMPANY - RILL & GULLY RECLAMATION PLAN
• Due to the type of soils present on the Bourg Mine property
and the nature of precipitation events common in North Park during
the spring and summer months, the potential for the formation of
some rills and gullies in the post-mined topography is great. In
light of this, Walden Coal Company hereby submits the following
rill and gully reclamation plan to be implemented in the case of
excessive rilling and/or gullying at the Bourg property.
Walden Coal Company personnel will make a minimum of two
inspections per year of aII reclaimed areas to determine if
excessive rilling or gullying has occurred. one inspection will
be conducted in the spring after the snowmelt runoff and the
second inspection will be conducted in the late summer or early
fall to coincide with the required vegetation and water sampling.
If excessive rillying or gullying, as defined by "The Mined Land
Reclamation Division's Policy on the Management of Rills and
Gullies," is identified, the following remedial steps shall be
taken:
1) Notify MLRD of the problem.
2) Assess the extent of the problem indicating location and
amount of area affected on a map and noting type of erosion.
• 3) Determine the appropriate remedial action. This may
include raking, retopsoiling, reseeding, reshaping, addition
of rip-rap, hay bales, or small check dams, or other action
as appropriate.
4) Correct the problem at a time when weather, soil, and
vegetation conditions permit during the first growing season
following identification of the problem. It is essential
that the reclaimed area not be further damaged in an attempt
to fill in rills and gullies.
5) Notify MLRD when all steps have been completed.
Management of Permanent Gully
The permanent gully on the Bourg property will be managed
according to the above Rill 6 Gully Reclamation Plan. The gully
has been graded, rip-rap has been added, and the area has been
reseeded. Walden Coal Company anticipates that with the
above-mentioned remedial actions the permanent gully will
experience normal as opposed to excessive erosion in the future.
• i
~~
R~Zo~ao
F-12{a)
