• Revised 12/21/82
All overburden preparation and placement of topsoil will be
done along the contour to minimize the hazard of soil erosion.
If the reclaimed surface develops severe erosion problems,
requiring structural erosion controls such as rip-rap, check
dams, etc., Walden Coal Company will submit the required revision
which shows the necessary design change and its maintenance.
The gentle slopes of the reclaimed surface will be easily
worked and seeded using standard reclamation equipment. No
behavioral or use patterns of indigenous animals found in the
area would be expected to change on the reclaimed surface.
Compaction
Plate 20 shows the anticipated final surface configuration
of the permit area. Compaction will be attained by the road
traffic of the various pieces of equipment mentioned above. This
• type of compaction has been used in the past and has proved very
effective.
Toosoilin
Table 4 shows the plan and schedule for stockpiling 232,910
bank yards of topsoil and redistributing 53,881 yards of this
topsoil in Stages I and 4. Topsoil will be removed with scrapers
prior to mining, taking as much as S feel from areas of non-
saline-sodic, thick alluvial soil and less from the Tops of
knolls and ridges where the soil is poor and thin. Topsoil will
be placed to a depth of approximately one foot in all areas.
The areas of saline-sodic soils are shown on Plate 15. They
are out of the mining area. When topsoil is removed from these
areas, it is stockpiled separately and will be buried at least 25
feet deep in the pit rather than reapplied for vegetative growth.
:~ ~ - - -~ F-6 -
