Mount March 9, 1999
Attached for your information are letters from American Soda
L.L.P. and Rio Blanco County which discuss these problems in more
detail. It is important that decisions about a project of this size be based
on good science. The mining and water-monitoring plans for this project
should accurately address existing hydrogeologic conditions and
potential impacts.
It is the desire of Rio Blanco County that this project be designed
and operated to minimize potential negative impacts and that all
decisions by permitting agencies be based on best available data.
If you have any questions please call the Rio Blanco County
Development Department.
Sincerely,
,( ~n~t~
Jim Komatinsky, Director
Department of Development
Enclosures: RBC Comments to BLM 3-399
Letter for Kurt Nielsen 3-8-99
cc: Board of Commissioners
George Benner, Atty.
Steigers Corporation
American Soda, LLP
Scott Balcomb, Atty.
Larry Shults, BLM
