• the existing fill area is shown on Figure 1. <br />These disposal operations ace being performed by Dorchester Coal <br />Company with densities of the compacted material verified by <br />independent testing including Rocky Mountain Geotechnical. <br />As previously discussed, the purpose of this report is to: <br />• Evaluate present disposal operations. <br />• Determine appropriate shear strength parameters based on <br />site investigation and laboratory tests. <br />• Determine the optimal pile height and storage configura- <br />tion based on site conditions. <br />• Recommend future construction procedures. <br />• Discussion and presentation of the results of each of the above <br />tasks are included in the sections which follow. <br />An investigation of the site was conducted to evaluate the <br />existing conditions and obtain samples for laboratory testing. <br />A total of three borings were located on the site, two of which <br />were located in the existing refuse pile and the third was <br />located in natural soil. The approximate location of these three <br />borings is shown on Figure 1. <br />As evidenced by the boring logs (presented in Appendix B), the <br />coal waste varies somewhat in consistency and moisture content <br />• with depth and location.
