C~ <br />Dorchester Coal Company operates an underground mine located in <br />Fremont County, Colorado. Processing wastes which require <br />disposal aGe produced in conjunction with this mining operation. <br />At the present time, these coal processing wastes or refuse are <br />being placed in an area southwest of the mine office, shown on <br />Figure 1. <br />Rocky Mountair. Geotechnical was requested by Dorchester Coal <br />Company to review present waste disposal operations, conduct <br />subsurface investigations of the existing refuse pile and perform <br />the necessary laboratory tests to prepare an optimized storage <br />• plan for the non-impounding refuse disposal facility. This <br />report contains the results of that study. <br />PREVIOUS gjl,$ pfS <br />The present disposal operations are being conducted based on a <br />previous design prepared by Geo Testing Laboratories, Inc. (GTL) <br />in their January 26, 1981, report, titled: 'Verification of <br />Items Contained in Rules 2 and 4 in the ~„qulations ~ ~hE <br />Colorado i{y~g~ Land Reclam~~Il Board f~ ~l MlIllAB for the <br />Dorchester No. 1 Mine near Canon City'. <br />The GTL report evaluated the following items: <br />o "Hydraulic capacities of the existing drainage and sedi- <br />• mentation systems for the hydraulic precipitation events <br />outlined in the Rules". <br />1 <br />
