• is decanted away from the compacted fill to the sedimentation
pond. This method is represented by placement of coarse material
at or near the location of the final placement and the saturated
fine refuse material placed in a small temporary pond within the
limits of the final pile configuration. The finer refuse is
allowed to dewater and then is thoroughly mixed in a 3:1 or
greater coarse to fine mixture, placed in lifts not exceeding
theee (3) feet and compacted to 908 of maximum standard proctor
density with a moisture content of between 12 and 22 percent by
weight.
A unifocm mixture of the coarse and fine refuse material can be
obtained by mixing it as it is being dozed, and then compacting
it to the required specifications. Density tests performed during
• previous studies along with those conducted by Rocky Mountain
Geotechnical have shown that densities in excess of 908 may be
achieved by these methods.
Once the belt press is installed and operational, it is expected
that the moisture content of the fine cefuse will be reduced such
that the on site dewatering of the material will not longer be
required. Once this condition is achieved, the low strength
material within the specified limits from the toe can be removed
and direct mixture of coarse and fine material can be performed.
A typical detail of the construction section (Section B-B) is
shown on Figure 5.
Final construction procedures assumes that a satisfactory method
9
