ISSUES RAISED AFTER THE INITIAL COMMENT PERIOD
(During the /rrformal Conference Cornnrenl Period)
3. "The members of the Henderson Water Ski Club have a concern with [he 124ih Estate partners application for
additional mining and sealing of the pi[ with clay for water storage. `What effect will this sealing process have on
the natural Flow of groundwater?' We are concerned about the level of our lake being effected by this process."
(Tom Knreger; Henderson Wnter Ski Chub; Ocrober 30. 200/)
DMG Response- The applicant will install three piezometers so that groundwater elevations can be recorded on a
regular basis, and a relationship between pond level and groundwater level can be established. The wells will be
placed along the southern boundary of the Ski Club's property, immediately south of the mine and north of the mine
and 124'" Avenue. The piezometers will be installed prior to mining, and sampling will be initiated within one week
after the wells have been installed. The wells will be sampled at least monthly through mining and reclamation
activity. During the irrigation season of May through September, water elevations will be recorded at least every
other week.
Following mining and lining of the water storage reservoir, [he applicant will continue to monitor groundwater levels
in the pond of the water ski club to ensure that the lined reservoir will not have a damming effect on groundwater
and cause significantly lower groundwater elevation in the pond of the Water Ski Club. Water level in the pond of
the Ski Club will be compared with local groundwater elevations, as measured by the three piezometers.
Comparison of relative water levels in the water ski pond with those in [he monitoring wells will provide a measure
of the impacts of dewa[ering activity. If the Water Ski Club's pond surface decreases by more than 0.5 feet from
the expected seasonal elevation, the applicant will take mitigative measure mutually agreed by the applicant and the
Henderson Water Ski Club. Such measures could include [he installation of a french drain around the water storage
reservoir, deepening [he water ski club, and/or discharging from the reservoir to the Water Ski Pond. The mitigation
measures of choice will be submitted to [he Division in the form of a Technical Revision to the permit once it has
been determined that the Henderson Water Ski Club has been impacted by the mining and reclamation activities.
ISSUES RAISED DURING THE INITIAL COMMENT PER/OD THAT THE D/VISION
BELIEVES ARE NOT WITH/N THE./URISD/CT/ON OF THE DIV/S/ON OR BOARD
"...My concern lies in the over-maximum amount of traffic on 124'h Avenue, the resulting noise and air pollution.
Where will they be exiting [he property and where will the processing of the gravel be done."
(Shirley L. Fngnn; September 4, 2001)
