J
J
n
u
PART II PROPOSED GPI:RATIONS

A method of progressive rehabilitation concurrent ~•aith mining operations
vaill be employed. When overburden is moved it will be placed in its
ultimate location or adjacent to its ultimate location to a contour and
elevation in accordance with the master plan. Tl,is is illustrated in drawings
-- 3-2 through 3-11 whereby islands, mounds and lake banks are constructed
I of overburden.
2. Progressive Reclamationi Planting: \Ne propose that reclaraation of the
site proceed in concert with the year's mining operation. In fact, perimeter
~ nex.[
plantings of riparian woodland species would starC-tl~i~s surmner. This ~.vi.ll
I
~ give these fast growing species a considerable head start. Examination of
J
i
J
J
7
J

drawings 3-2 through 3-lI shows the progressive mining and rcclarnatinn of
the site. Note that after each year's operai.ion (October-May), revaneratia:
will proceed during the growing season on those sites v~~hich will not he
further disturbed. The vaater fable will then be allowed to rise during the
growing season. In this manner whole sections of the site will he reclaimed
years before the last portion is mined. When the final portion is excavated
(see dewing 3-10), the perimeter planting will be nine to tell years old! (a)
The entire eastern portion of the site will have been producing natural
habitats for approximately five years. The access road nail] be moved from an
eastern to a western route in order to minimize disturbance of the natural
processes in the reclaimed areas. A nursery of native tree species will be
started in the area just south of Boulder Cree}: which will be used i.n the
revegetation of the areas to be reined during the last several years of
operation. Transplanting of these plants will greatly speed up the reclamation
of these last year's operations. Thus, by a program of progressive
_~.__(a)..
