required slope is about 5,000 cubic yards, which is about the ~~
amount of rock that it will require to complete the excavation of
• the tunnel (see attached computation sheets for details).
Reclamation of the pad after final closure will require a further
approximately 5,000 cubic yards of rock.
The stability of the extended pad has been computed using a IIj1
bilinear wedge analysis (see attached computation sheets). The ((~~ll
computed factor of safety for the extended pad is 1.82, greater
than the 1.5 factor of safety required in the regulation.
Computations have been performed assuming drained conditions, due
to the depth to the water table, and the expected high permeability
of the materials.
4.3 #2 Portal pad
Portal #2 pad will also be extended to the north, with the facel'~
slope being flattened from the current 35° to the somewhat less
than required 2h:ly (26.5°). The plan of the extension is
presented on Figure 3, together with a cross section through the
thickest portion of the pad.
The volume of material that would be required to achieve the
required slope is also about 5,000 cubic yards, to complete the II~
excavation of the tunnel (see attached computation sheets for
• details). 'Reclamation of the pad after final closure will also II
require a further approximately 5,000 cubic yards of rock.
The stability of the extended pad has been computed using a sliding I
block analysis (see attached computation sheets). The computed
factor of safety for the extended pad is 2.04, greater than the 1.5 IIi
factor of safety required in the regulation. A drained assumption
is again made.
Adrian Brown Consultants -9- 1145/900531
