-3-
2.0 r~THODOLOGY
On August 15, 1984, Mr. Don Meeker, Environmental Engineer for Trapper
Mine, took Mr. Kainer to the site location and pointed out features which
had been identified in the past by Trapper Mine personnel. After this
orientation, a site datum was established (marked by rebar and metal iden-
tification tag with temporary site number). All bearings to features or
artifacts were taken from datum through the use of a Brunton compass. Due
dense stands of Gambel's oak in and around the site area, most distance
measurements from datum were approximated through pacing. No cultural
material was collected from the site during this investigation.
All site information was recorded on standardized site forms issued by
the Colorado State Historic Preservation Office. Color film was used in
photographing the site.
Upon completion of site recording, Mr. Kainer returned to the Trapper
• Mine Office to examine artifacts which had been previously collected from
the site. On August 16, 1984, Mr. Kainer conducted a title search for
homestead patents through the Moffat County Clerk and Assessor's Offices in
Craig, Colorado.
•
