(',rny~liwn'.'.Iludul~ ~I
3. COMPLIANCE MODULE
This chapter provides instruc[ions to install and setup the Blasttilate III.
3.1 What is Event Monitoring?
Even[ moni[oring measures both ground vibrations and air pressure. The moni[or measures
transverse, vertical, and longitudinal ground vibrations. Transverse ground vibrations a;itate
particles in a side to side motion. Vertical eround vibrations agitate particles in an up and down
motion. Longitudinal ground vibrations a=irate particles in a forward and back motion pro ~ressin~
outward from the event site. Events also affect air pressure by creatinc what is commonly referzed
to as "air blast'. By measuring air pressures, we can determine the effect of air blast eners} on
structures, measured on the Linear "L" scale, or as perceived by the human ear, measured on the
"A" Weight scale.
Air Pressure +
+ ~/
Microphone T +
111 L
fo • _
Standard Transducer
Ground ubraGons
V =Vertical
T =Transverse
L =Longitudinal
Event
The artows indicate positive and negative ground moGOn represented by
waveforms created by the BlastMate III.
Longitudinal geophone (L) ~
w '
LL
}~
} +
Vertical geophone (V) ~
5
0
o.
O
W
U
7
Transverse geophone (T) Z
TIME
Fi:ure 3.I How the Blast~~late III M1lonitors Ecen[s
u
•
BlastMate 111 Operator fvtanual 3-1
