•
Because the Federal Lease Tract is adjacent to the existing operation of
Kerr Coal, environmental impacts from mining will be minimal. No
additional socioeconomic impacts to the surrounding communities will be
experienced since the proposed mining from the south mine area portion of
Federal Lease Tract C-22777 will serve to maintain existing levels of
production and employment. Support facilities such as office buildings,
railroads, tipples, etc. are already in place and will continue to be
utilized as the additional reserves are mined. Total surface area
disturbed at any one time will not be increased because Kerr Coal doe snot
plan to significantly expand existing levels of production.
Compliance With the Surface Mining Control and Reclamation Act of 1971
In an effort to facilitate and expedite the review of this application,
Kerr Coal has held a series of meetings with OSM and MLRB representatives
familiar with the existing Marr operations, throughout the spring and
summer of 1980 for the purpose of discussing and reaching some
• understanding concerning the permit format, design criteria for certain
structures, and environmental baseline information requirements. The
permit preparation efforts of Kerr Coal have proceeded in substantial
reliance upon the conclusions reached at these meetings.
L~
-8R- Revised - August, ]990
-- -- .. --
