We believe that the
slurry wall is the superior cutoff alternative for ti19s site due to
the variable nature of the alluvial soils. The ex<hct extent and
' nature of the alluvium can best be determined when the alluvium has
been exposed in the south wall during mining.
Preliminary subsurface exploration results indicate that a
slurry wall or similar impermeable barrier may not be necessary. If
the alluvium exposed in the south wall of the West f'it exhibits a
direct and highly permeable connection to the Rito '_eco, BMR will
' complete a final slurry wall design based on actual s to conditions
and submit this design to the Division for approval.
Exhibit E, Section E.3.1.2 revised 2/15/89 with second revision 4/20/89.
3. Reclamation Bond Calculations
Reclamation bond calculations are currently bring revised.
Revised costs will be submitted upon completion. the estimated
' completion date is march 10, 1989.
Exhibit L revised 4/20/89.
4. Emergency Response Plan
' An emergency response plan is currentl,~ being developed for
the site. the plan will include information cn emergency
notification, detoxification, monitoring, chemical handling, and
chemical storage. This plan will be submitted upon completion. The
l estimated completion date is March 10, 1989.
The Emergency Response Plan has been added as Appendix P 4/2Q189.
ke hope that the information included :with thhis letter provides
clarification on the rock toe buttress and the slurry wall. Additional
information on the reclamation bond costs and the emergency resp~,nse plan will
' be submitted no later than March 10, 1989.
