NORTHWEST COLORADO CONSULTANTS, INC.
Project: Batch Weigh Loadout
Haul Road
Location: Foidel Creek Mine
Client: RAG
Project No.: 02-5023
Report No.: 3
Date: 9/24/02
Time: 2.0
Mileage: 24
EngrJTech: BDL
Work Pertormed:
As requested, we visited the project site on this date and conducted nuclear density test No.'s 6 through 9 on the
subbase sands and gravels (Pit Run) being placed along the subject haul road.
The client had placed and compacted approximately 5 to 7 inches of subbase sands and gravels prior to our site
visit.
In addition, we obtained a sample of the subbase sands and gravels material and delivered it to our laboratory for
modified Proctor and classification testing. This sample will be designated as Sample Number 2 for this project.
Remarks:
The materials tested generally met the project specifications for compaction, however, the thickness of the
subbase sands and gravels was only 5 to 7 inches. In addition, we measured the width of the road at each of the
test locations. The road width ranged from 21' to 24' in width.
Verbal Dtscussions:
Dave Wallace of RAG-Twentymile Coal Company was notified of today's test results. We also advised Mr.
Wallace that they could place additional base course materials to make up the difference in the subbase
materials thickness. The subbase aggregates were supposed to be 8° in thickness. We also advised Mr. Wallace
that the subbase materials in the center (lower) portion were pumping and deflecting. We recommended that
these areas be stabilized prior to placing the base course aggregates.
