It formed in mixed outwagh and eolian deposits. <br />Included in this unit are some soils with sandstone and shale s.bove 60 <br />inches. <br />Typically the surface layer is brown sandy loam about 10 inches thick. <br />The underlying material, to a depth of 50 inches, is a pale 'brccm cal- <br />careous fine sandy loam. <br />rooting depth is 60 inches or more. Surface runoff is medium t.o rapid <br />Permeability is 'rapid:~'Available water 'capacity is moderate. E~feFtive <br />and erosion hazard is low. <br />~~~, <br />~.~-'• This soil is suited to limited cropping; intensive cropping is hazardous <br />because of erosion. The cropping system should be limited to close grown <br />crops such as alfalfa, wheat and barley. The soils also are adapted to <br />irrigated pasture.. A suitable cropping system would_be alfalf<< 3 to 4 <br />years followed by corn and small grain for 2 years and- alfalfa seeded with <br />a nurse crop. <br />~l <br />• ~ ,. <br />Close grown crops may be irrigated from closely spaced contour ditches or <br />sprinklers. Contour furrows or sprinklers should be used for new crops. <br />Applications of nitrogen and phosphorous fertilizer will help maintain <br />good production. <br /> <br />
