Alternative #6 - No Action - Truckinu to Meet Current Levels <br />Alternative M5 describes Lhe present method of coal transportation, trucking <br />on Steven's Gulch Road 'and State Highway 133 for an existing tonnaye rate of <br />approximately 1,500,000 tons per year, <br />Physical Description <br />Trucks loaded at the Orchard Valley Mine would haul coal down Steven's Gulch <br />Road and State Highway 133 to the truck dump station at the train loadout <br />area located along State Highway 133, Emptied trucks would return to the <br />Orchard Valley Mine via the same route to pick up another load, The number <br />of trucks for current conditions are six, The number of truck trips are 220 <br />per day. The existing loading and truck dump facilities would be utilized. <br />Construction <br />No additional construction would be necessary to implement this alternative, <br />Operations/Maintenance <br />CWI would continue trucking from 7:00 a,m, to 11:00 p,m, CWI would continue <br />the reyular maintenance of Steven's Gulch Road and the trucking contractor <br />would continue the regular maintenance of the trucks. CWI would continue <br />reyular maintenance of the loading and unloading facilities. <br />Reclamation <br />• Upon cessation of operations at the Orchard Valley Mine, final reclamation <br />of the mine site and facilities would begin, The truck loadiny station at <br />the mine site, as well as the truck dump station at the train loadout area, <br />would be dismantled and salvaged for possible resale. Shallow foundations <br />and yravel and asphalt from roadways would be removed, Steven's Gulch Road <br />would be left for public access to Federal lands north of the mine site, <br />Refer to Appendix "M" for specific reclamation procedures, <br />The truck loadout site would be regraded, topsoil redistributed, irrigation <br />patterns restored, and the orchard replanted in the appropriate areas, <br />The Orchard Valley Mine site would be regraded, drainage established, and <br />the area revegetated in accordance with final reclamation designs approved <br />by the Colorado Mined land Reclamation Division, Refer to Appendix "M" for <br />specific reclamation procedures, <br />Economic Feasibility <br />At the existing tonnage level, single unit truckiny is the most economically <br />feasible alternative, because no new capital expenditures would be required <br />and the per ton hauliny cost is below the expense of any other alternative. <br />Because of the unknown market conditions which may require haulaye of dif- <br />ferent levels than existing tonnages, Alternative k4 is proposed, <br />C~ <br />36 <br />
