It is modifiod by Ute Rochy lfountains to
the west and the higher country of the Blac{: Forrst
area to the south. The effects of the mountains vary
considerably with increasing distance from the tccstcrn
end of the county toward the east. The county, 72 miles
long attd 18 miles wide, ranges in elevation from 5,550
feet at the southwest corner to 4,500 feet at the north-
east corner, and is within a plains climate that changes
rapidly to a foothills climate )ust west of the county.
llfany features of the climate at Acncer, which is
representative of the extreme westcr•It and southwestern
part of Adants County, can be applied kith some modi-
fication to the entire county. Variations in climate from
the western border eastward include increased acerage
wiltllspeed because of the teduccd effectiveness of ntorm-
tain shielding, slightly lower average anneal precipita-
tion, lower amounts of precipitation and snowfall in
reinter and early in spring, incrrasrd nmonnts and vari-
ability of srtmmcr precipitation, greatrr average t-aria-
tion in daily and annual temperatures, :uxl soutro•hat
lotem• cloudiness aul higher pm•ccutagc of sunshine on
mt anluLal average.
