• filled with sediment from the gravel washing process. The current settling pond should ntcct
the rc~luiremcnts oC the processing plant for 5 }cars, after which the first of three 6-acre
additi~~nal ponds will be constructed. Because phase I will be mined long before the future
settling pond area is Cully developed, side slopes will be graded to 2:1 (H:V) and revegetated
[o control dust.
Haul Ftoad Plan
Approximately 1.4 miles of haul roads will be constructed to supply [he processing plant
with ran-of-mine material and to allow highway access for product delivery trucks. The 0.4
mile highway access road leading north from the processing plant will be treated with an
asphalt emulsion up to the northeast corner of the Conda property, and will be paved Crom that
point [o Highway 93. The project will also make use of 1.2 miles of existing gravel-surfaced
• Rocky Flats Plant fire road that lies within the permit boundaries.
\Vater Usaee
Total water requirements for the two scrubbing units and the final product washing
total 5.800 gallons per minute. Most of this will be supplied by the return of reclaimed process
water i rom the settling and storage ponds, but evaporation losses and retention by [he gravel
products will necessitate some replacement. The active settling pond will drain into the fresh
water {pond, and both will be lined with compacted clay to minimize seepage. Total water losses
from evaporation, retention, and seepage is estimated at seven acre-feet per year. Water Cor
the gravel project will be supplied Crom the McKay reservoir south of the Rocky Flats Plant
via a 3.3 mile long 6" diameter pipeline. This pump and pipeline system will also supply water
to the lightweight aggregate plant, and will be sized to handle both requirements.
•
4
