MBCeHC03SO4 water type, usually from early summer through winter. Durl nB the spring, •
calcium replaces magnesium es the dominant cation, end sulfate has replaced biterbane to et
least once during late summer.
Total dissolved solids range from 904 Lo 988 mg/l, varying only slightly lower during the
spring season. The range in sulfate is also rel at ivety smell at YWC31, from 34b to 476
mg/l, although with less distinctive seasonal variebi lacy. Field pN has ranged from 6.9
to 8.5 S.U., end most pN values for this slightly alkaline ground water have been in
excess of 7.2 S.U. Hardness as CeC03 has ranged from 675 up to 735 mg/L with no seasonal
pattern of verieDiltty.
Several trace elements have been measured et detectable concentrations in Vell YVC31,
including Be, B, F, Fe, and 2n. None of these elements were analyzed at concentrations
above 1 mg/l.
Trout Creek Sandstone. No site-specific water quality information has been collected from
the Trout Creek sandstone in the vicinity of the Toast Mine. However, water quality date
has been collected since 1981 from the shop well completed in the Trout Creek sandstone •
that supplies water et [he Seneca 11 Mine, and can provide insight regarding expected
water quality from the proposed Toast production well.
The Trout Creek sandstone below the Seneca II Mine consistently exhibits a NaSO4HC03 water
type. Field pH values range from 7.2 up to 8.25, which are slightly alkaline. Hardness
as CaC03 averages 249 mg/l, ranging widely from 116 mg/l to 586 mg/l. Sulfate averages
412 mg/l, and tot a( dissolved solids averages 871 mg/1. Detectable concentrations of
several trace elements have been measured, but none have been measured above 1 mg/l.
SCC anticipates similar water quality in the proposed Yoast production well.
Ground Water Suitability.
Present Ground Yater Use. Ground water rights within and proximate to the Yoest mining
area are analyzed in Tab 76 (Protection of the Hydrologic Balance) of this PAP. Vater
rights are listed in Table 16-1, end locations ere Chown on Exhibit 16-1. In ell, five
ground water rights have been identified in the vicinity of the Yoes[ mining area. These
wells are righted for either livestock or ~~other~~ uses. The reader is referred to Tab 16 •
for additional inf ormetion regarding ground wafer rights.
56 Revised 03/01/95
