lowering significantly during the spring and early summer following anowmelt. low •
herdnese concentrations have been measured et Yell YSAL72 during the spring end early
summer, often by a factor of two. No distinct seesonsl pattern for herdnese has been
detected et Vell YSAL3.
Concentrations of sever el trace elements have been detected et ell four Sege Creek
alluvial wells, including Be, B, F, Fe, and Zn. Detectable concentrations of Cu, Cd, Hg,
Si, end V have also been measured et least once at one or more alluvial wells, although,
with the exception of Si, et very low concentrations. Only iron and silica have been
measured et concentrations greater then 1.0 mg/l. Iron values greater than 7.0 mg/t have
been observed et Yells YSAL3, TSALB, end YSAL72, although never greeter then 4.0 mg/l.
Although no use-related standard has been set for this parameter, silica was fncluded fn
the analysis suites collected.in Wells YSAL7, YSALB, end YSAL72 prior to 1991 (USGS), but
never exceeded 20 mg/l.
Lennox Coal. Wells YLS and YL6 both monitor water quality in the Lennox Coal (see Exhibit
7-1). Only one full water quality suite was collected at YLS during the baseline period.
Table 7-13 presents summary Comments regarding water types depicted on trilineer diagrams •
and listed in percent milliequivalent tables found in Appendix 7-4. Both Lennox coal
wells exhibit HgCaXC03 SO4 water types without seasonal variability.
7otel dissolved solids in the Lennox coal seam ranges from 920 up to 7200 mg/l (YLS).
Haan TDS variability over the four seasons et YLb has been slight, just under 70 mg/l.
Sulfate has ranged from 303 to 480 mg/l (YLS), also exhibiting slight seasonal
variability. Field pX values et Yell YL6 have ranged from 6.8 up to 7.0 S.U. and the one
field pH collected at YLS was 6.7 S.U. Ground water in the Lennox coal seam shows little
seasonal variability in pH, end can be considered neutral to slightly acidic. Hardness as
CaC03 ranges from 656 mg/t up to 880 mg/l (YLS) with some slight seasonal variability
(lowest in spring, increasing summer through fell). Lennox coal ground water is
classified as very hard.
Detectable concentrations of the following trace element6 have been observed at either
Lennox coal well: 8e, B, F, Fe, Pb, Ni, Si, Zn. Of these, only silica was measured et
concentrations greater then 1 mg/l, end since no use-related standard exists for this
parameter, these measurements have little significance. •
Lennox Overburden. Yells YLOV3 end YLOV6 both monitor water quality in the Lennox
G4 Revised 03/07/95
