Xydreulic gradients (i) were measured from the potentiometric surface maps constructed for
each unit (Exhibits 7-2 through 7-4). Gradients used to eetimete discharge were measured
near the dovngredient portion of each potentiometric surface. Average values for K, i,
and b are listed below:
K .001 ft/day (Madge overburden - northeast)
K = .001 ft/day (Yedge overburden - northwest)
K = .002 ft/day (Wedge coal - northeast)
K = .002 ft/day (Yedge coal - northwest)
K .0015 ft/day (Yedge underburden)
i = - .150 ft/ft (Yedge overburden - northeast)
i = - .070 ft/ft (Yedge overburden - northwest)
i = - .135 ft/ft (Yedge coal - northeast)
i = - .087 ft/ft (Yedge coal - northwest)
i = - .129 ft/ft (Yedge underburden)
b = 200.0 ft (Yedge overburden - northeast)
b = 62.0 ft (Yedge overburden - northvest) •
b = 13.5 ft (Yedge coal - northeast)
b = 13.5 ft (Yedge coal - northvest)
b = 43.0 ft (Yedge untlerburden)
therefore:
q = .03 ft2/day (Yedge overburden - northeast)
q = .004 ft2/day (Yedge overburden - northwest)
q = .004 ft2ldey (Yedge coal - northeast)
q = .002 ft2/day (Yedge coal - northwest)
q = .008 ft2/day (Yedge underburden)
Ground water movement through the permit area is greatly influenced by the Fish Creek
anticline; trending to the north end northeast on the eastern flank and to the vest and
northwest on the vestern flank of the anticline. Where both the Yedge overburden end coal
units discharge at the permit boundary to the northvest (vestern flank of anticline), the
length of this discharge zone is 5,840 feet- On the eastern flank of the Fish Creek
anticline (northern flov) both units discharge along a 3,560-foot length dovngredient at
the permit boundary.
The Madge underburden (see Exhibit 7-4) discharges at the southwestern boundary along a
28
