Cdo~uAn 80216 (825-t 192) <br />EXHIBIT E <br />Chris Nofsinger <br />Nielson's Inc, <br />Box 684 <br />Dolores, Colorado 81323 <br />Dear Chris, <br /><pt~~ i H'~O~ <br />f ~+ { <br />~/ 1,~ ~~~ <br />~I°4v t v~`~c <br />~_. >~_ <br />June 3, 1976 <br />n <br />Here is the xildlife information we discussed yesterday concerting the <br />gravel pit on the William Craig property, <br />The present gravel pit is on the western edge of a mile-wide migration <br />corridor that is of average importance to deer, There is another <br />nearby area that also serves as migration corridor but at lesser <br />importance, As we discussed the future of the gravel pit, expanding <br />operations along a north-south direction would parallel the migration <br />corridor and not reduce its xidth more than 15~ at the maximum, <br />Operation noise during the major migration periods (October through <br />January and t~iarch through June) x111 have some effect on deer <br />although it probably xon't be enough to seriously alter migration <br />habits, <br />The area has been known, in the past, as a minor fawning area for a <br />few resident female deer, The dozen or so animals in the immediate <br />area would probably find sufficient other unoccupied areas for <br />fawning because of the available area and the present low density of <br />deer, <br />Elk have been known to occasionally use the same corridor but should <br />not be seriously affected by the operation, <br />Other important considerations for the area are the hunting and <br />resting zones for the endangered peregrine falcon (occasional <br />occurrence outside its normal hunting range) and the bald and golden <br />eagles, Bald eagles occasionally use the area in winter for resting, <br />but prefer to stay closer to the river, further west from the the <br />gravel pit, Golden eagles hunt in the area generally but should <br />not be seriously affected by the proposed gravel pit size at this <br />location, <br />The habitat along the north-south line of probable gravel pit <br />operations appears to be about 75~ pinon-juniper community and about <br />25~ pastureland, The occurrence of band-tailed pigeon and mourning <br />dove would be considered occasional because of lack of great <br />quantities of food, Some dove nesting x111 be disturbed by <br />operations but not a significant amount, <br />(over) <br />DEPARTWENT OF NATIJ HAL RESOURCG S.
