Vector Attraction Red +ction T 'mirationc
If the biosolids are to be land applied to agricultural land, forest land, a public contact site or a reclamation
the biosolids shall meet any one of the alternatives c)(I) through c)(v).
If the biosolids aze to be sold or given away in a bag or similaz enclosure for application to land or for use on
lawn or home gazden, the biosolids shall meet one of the three alternatives (I) through (iii) below.
m The mass of volatile solids in the biosolids shall be reduced by a minimum of 38 percent prior to land
application. Alternately, if aerobically digested biosolids cannot meet the 38 percent volatile solids
reduction requirement, a portion of the previously digested biosolids (with a percent solids content of 2
percent or less) shall be digested aerobically in the laboratory in a bench-scale unit for an additional 30
at a temperature between 20 and 22°C. At the end of the 30 days; the volatile solids content shall have
been reduced by no more than 15 additional percent.
(ii) The specific oxygen uptake me (SOUR) for the biosolids treated in an aerobic process shall be equal to of
less than 1.5 mg of oxygen hour/gram of total solids at a temperature of 20°C.
I~
(iii) The biosolids shall be treated in an aerobic process for 14 days or longer with a temperature remaining
above 40°C. The average temperamre shall be greater than 45°C.
(iv) The biosolids shall be injected below the surface of the land and no significant amount of biosolids shall b~-
present on the land surface within one hour after the biosolids aze injected. If the biosolids meet the Class ~
A pathogen requirements (Part I.A.2.b)(I)), the biosolids shall be injected below the land surface within 8
hours after the biosolids are discharged from the pathogen reduction process.
(v) Biosolids applied to the land surface shall be incorporated into the soil within 6 hours after application to tt~
land.
