~~ ~~.- Grand River Institute
13 July 1981
Dorchester Coal Company
2795 Skyline Court
Grand Junction, Colorado 81501
Attn: Henry Barbe
Environmental Technician
Re: Cultural Resources Inventory for Dorchester-Colomine Coal
Company 1n Fremont County, Colorado
Dear Mr. Barbe:
• This letter is written in response to your request to either resolve
or substantiate a discrepancy in an application to the Colorado
Mined Land Reclamation Division about the question of whether or
not cultivation took place within the area legally described as
T.20S., R.69W., Section 30, NE~NM~t, 6th P.M. The area lies along a
low ridge, and is proposed•as a mine dump. it was observed at the
time of the survey to have been previously disturbed and I had pre-
sumed such disturbance to be mine related and possibly cultivated.
The conclusion that this area may have been cultivated cannot, at
this writing. be substantiated by any known records. In any case,
these lands cannot be considered 'prime farmland'.
I hope my letter settles any controversy in this matter. If not,
please call me.
Sincerely,
~,
Carl E. Conner
Director
CEC/Jlk
research and education in the natural and cultural scienees
