Section 816.116 (a) Continued.
• Measurement Techniques
Success of revegetation on the Eckman Park permit area and the
future mining areas for Energy Afines No. 1 and 2 will be measured
using the State of Wyoming Department of Environmental Quality
Guideline No. 2, (1979). Determination of a success standard for a
mine site will begin prior to mining by preparing a range site map
and establishing a permanent reference area for each range site
which will be disturbed by mining. The reference areas are about
three acres in size and are located in representative areas which
will not be disturbed by mining. Each range site and reference
area are then intensively sampled. After mining and reclamation
have been completed, the revegetated area will be sampled concurrently
with the undisturbed reference areas. Premining and postmining
data will then be 'ected to a series of equations which will
result in numerical goals for ground cover and plant production. 1
• 41hen the cover and production from the revegetated area meet or exceed 1
- these goals, revegetation standards for success~e been met. -
Mapping and sampling procedures for range sites are presented in
Section 779.19, Vegetation Information.
Establishment and Sampling of Reference Areas
Typical areas, closely resembling the range sites which will be
disturbed by mining were selected on the basis of soils, slope,
aspect, and general appearance. Each reference area contains
approximately 2 1/2 to 3 acres. The exact location will be marked
with steel posts placed at each of the four corners.
Sampling procedures used in sampling range sites will be used to
sample reference areas with the exception that transects will be
systematically determined. A minimum of 15 transects will be run
per reference area. Data from range sites and reference areas will
. be collected concurrently.
816-156
