Section 816.112 (a) Continued.
Pastureland Mixture
The pastureland mixtures contain several introduced plant species (See
Section 780.18). These species are of the same seasonal variety as are
found on the site in its premising condition (See Section 779.19). As
required by the definition of pastureland in 30 CFR 701.5, domesticated
forage plants which existed on the site prior to disturbance must be
replanted. If all native species were established on this site, then
the land use would change from pastureland to grazingland. The
pastureland species to be used by Energy Fuels are those recommended by
Tucker and Herrey (1957) and Steward (1973). The introduced species
are documented in these reports as being of superior utility for forage
production.
Cropland Mixture
• The proposed seed mixture for the cropland land use areas was
formulated using the criteria in 30 CFR 816.111 (a) which requires all
affected lands be established to a permanent vegetative cover of the
same seasonal variety native to the area of disturbed land. The
perennial mixture described in Section 780.18 for cropland will
reestablish the designated sites as hay cropland. The proposed mixture
in part has been widely recommended as dryland hay by numerous
researchers including Steward (1973), Seamonds and Roehrkasse (1974)
and Marquiss, et. al. (1974). The introduced species are documented in
these reports as being of superior utility for forage production.
Rangeland Mixture
Introduced species included in the rangeland mixture include:
intermediate, pubescent, and desert wheatgrasses; meadow brome;
orchardgrass; timothy; birdsfoot trefoil; cicer milkvetch; and small
Burnet. Of the 29 species proposed, 20 species are native. On a pure
• live seed basis, 86.6 percent of the seeds to be planted are native
species on the site.
816-143 Revised 04/10/87
